Partnering with International School Services: Global Citizenship Certificate Takes Flight
The Inspire Citizens Global Citizenship Certificate program (previously named the Master Educator Endorsement) is a dynamic series of professional learning courses designed to equip and inspire K-12 educators to engage students in meaningful and impactful global citizenship learning.
For 2022/23, the program is about to reach more educators than ever before. Inspire Citizens has teamed up with International School Services, and when participants register, they can do so through the ISS platform or through a direct link on the Inspire Citizens website.
“The work we’re going to do now with ISS is exciting,” says Inspire Citizens co-founder Steve Sostak. “All of the writing and curating we have invested in our program is coming into a space where we can provide resources for coaching educators worldwide. It’s really exciting.”
The program is now in its third year and educators who have taken the course cannot say enough good things about it.
Dana Watts is the Director of Learning, Research and Outreach at ISS and she is also very excited about partnering with Inspire Citizens.
“I want to put people in touch with experts in the field, and the work that Inspire Citizens is doing is phenomenal,” says Dana. “It’s important for us to get quality professional development out in front of teachers. We have the systems and structures, as a larger organization, to support quality professional learning, and I want more schools to be exposed to the themes of what Inspire Citizens is doing.”
Teachers who have taken the Global Citizenship Certificate courses are full of praise for what they have experienced and learned.
“The Inspire Citizens course is absolutely fantastic. It is set up so that you can largely go at your own pace, and is a challenging but certainly achievable amount of work to do alongside a full-time teaching position,” says Anthony Reich, Director of Global Citizenship at Dulwich College Pudong in Shanghai, China. “I love the Socratic seminars that we have weekly - to be able to connect with passionate, dedicated and engaged teachers from around the globe is an absolute pleasure; I actively look forward to the sessions as I always come out of each week buzzing.”
Callie Bush, a middle and high school science educator at Hong Kong Academy, agrees: “I have been involved in many online PD experiences. The Inspire Citizens course is one of the best. A community of learners has been created through discussion boards and online sessions. The ongoing conversations provide opportunities for reflection and deeper understanding.”
