2030: Portrait of a Graduate, Portrait of an Educator

What’s Happening in this Picture?

WHAT: In a live ISTE workshop sponsored by #ISTEGlobalPLN and Belouga, Steve and student leaders from Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) address the following questions :

1. Based around a character sketch, what will the profile of a student look like in 2030?

2. Based on these informed predictions, what needs to be our WHY of education going forward towards 2030?

3. Over the next decade, which of the Inspire Citizens 20 Key Concepts for 2030 do you believe both students and teachers need to understand the most? Explain.

WHY: Through the voices of students, evaluate and reflect on the relevance of education systems and teacher development in addressing the complex challenges young people face in over the next decade. Set next steps in your community to address any disconnections. See examples.

HOW: The Belouga video illuminates the teaching strategies and student discussions throughout the hour of shared discussion and student suggestions to educators. Within the hour of facilitation, Steve highlights elements of Project Zero’s Thinking Routines, Liberating Structures protocols, and elements of the Future Now Inspire Citizens Leadership toolkit such as character sketching, sustainability systems thinking, and the golden circle framework to amplify student learning and civic leadership.

THANK YOU: Jonathan Mueller for identifying the synergy between WAB and Inspire Citizens’ missions, allowing for the time and space to think critically and creatively about teaching and learning practices.
