Inspire Citizens Global Impact School Self-Study:
Dissect, Contextualize, Implement, Inspire

OVERVIEW

The Inspire Citizens Global Impact School Self-Study is a publication, framework, and global initiative under the direction of Steve Sostak and Aaron Moniz, co-founders of Inspire Citizens. The self-study exists as a global and intercultural competence guide designed for schoolwide implementation of deep thinking and applied learning towards meeting three urgent global needs: Ongoing, compassionate civic engagement, collective wellbeing, and the sustainable development of the world.

The self-study is designed for schools, administrators, and educators that wish for local and global community impact to be an essential thread of student learning and a school’s educational model. However, this isn’t always an easy task. Schools and classrooms are not always set up to encourage applied learning centered on compassionate empathy and sustainable civic action. Through ten pathways and sub-criteria, the self-study encourages best-practices in professional learning, efficacy research in short and long-term strategic planning, and contextualized, student-led action that empowers learners to build a more healthy, sustainable, and equitable future.

GOALS

During the hands-on workshop, we will focus on concrete ways schools, administrators, and educators can create a schoolwide or classroom culture that fosters applied learning for compassionate civic engagement, collective wellbeing, and sustainable development. First, the self-study’s ten pathways will be unpacked to shed light upon the necessary visioning, professional learning, curriculum opportunities, and community partnerships that can lead to an applied understanding of global citizenship and intercultural competence. Secondly, we will provide time to collaborate and co-design personalized, short and long-term plans for implementing part or all of the Inspire Citizens Global Impact School Self-Study framework into schools, divisions, grade levels, or classrooms.

The  Inspire Citizens Global Impact School Self-Study pathways that will  be explored are:

1.        Analyze Cultural, Educational, Geographical and Historical Contexts

2.        Vision and Mission for Global and Intercultural Competence

3.        Establish Best Practices in Professional Learning

4.        Implement Empathy to Impact Curriculum and Project Design

5.        Apply Deep Learning, Global and Intercultural Competencies: Inspire Citizens Student Impact Profile

6.        Enhance Student Leadership: Global Leadership Toolkit and Certificate

7.        Amplify Digital Citizenship: Global Youth Media

8.        Reimagine the School Campus as a Sustainability Living Lab

9.        Embed Personal and Collective Wellness Programs

10.      Strengthen and Celebrate Local and Global Relationships and Partnerships
