Our world is not a collection of isolated facts, but a living, breathing network of interconnected systems. In Bhutan, a nation that measures Gross National Happiness, this wisdom is foundational: every choice ripples through the environment, the economy, culture, and community well-being.
Our Wellbeing Approach for Educators
Bhutan’s culture prioritizes the human spirit over economic output. Journey with us to Bhutan, the world's first carbon-negative country, where the national philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH) provides a profound framework for transforming education.
You will learn to root your teaching in the understanding that ecological health, cultural vitality, and psychological well-being are inseparable. Through this lens, you will have the clarity to create custom tools to facilitate project-based inquiry.
Instructional Unit Design with Empathy to Impact
. . . so students identify real-world community challenges; are empowered to solve problems and create meaningful social impact
Educator x Bhutan is a transformational professional learning experience that positions Bhutan as both classroom and catalyst for regenerative, purpose-driven professional development.
Set within Bhutan’s unique Gross National Happiness (GNH) framework, where well-being, sustainability, and education are national priorities, participants engage in reflective, place-based learning that invites deep consideration of purpose, pedagogy, and practice.
Through experiential learning, intercultural collaboration, community engagement, and guided regenerative practices, educators will:
Reconnect with their purpose and presence as changemakers in education
Design an instructional unit using the Empathy to Impact framework to address authentic community challenges
Develop regenerative classroom strategies that nurture student empathy, agency, and connection
Explore how well-being, mindfulness, and sustainability can be meaningfully embedded into curriculum and learning design
Educators leave with a completed instructional unit, reflective tools, and practical strategies that extend beyond the classroom for lasting social impact.
How it works
Expect a reflective journey where you “re-image” your purpose and translate Bhutan’s principles of Gross National Happiness into your meaningful teaching and leadership practices.
Participants will:
- Explore mindfulness and well-being as foundations for regenerative teaching and learning.
- Engage in experiential, place-based learning in partnership with Bhutanese educators and communities.
- Write an instructional unit plan using Inspire Citizens’ Empathy to Impact framework and resources.
- Develop strategies for regenerative classroom practices that nurture empathy, purpose, and connection.
- Reflect on personal and professional growth through guided journaling, dialogue, and collaborative inquiry.
- Create a short digital story or video to be shared with colleagues upon returning home, inspiring other educators to integrate well-being, mindfulness, and regenerative practices into teaching and learning.
- Design a post-experience action plan to share their unit plan, design process, and digital story/video and integrate insights into their school context.
Pre- and post-program orientation and learning resources will be provided to extend impact beyond the experience.
