Out of the Blocks is a uniquely immersive listening experience that emerges from a mosaic of voices and soundscapes, first on the streets of Baltimore, and now into international student productions. A custom-tailored score colors and connects this tapestry of interviews that capture stories hidden in plain sight.

Inspire Citizens supports the Global Youth Edition as past of Global Youth Media projects. Divisional or school wide integration of the Out of the Blocks mission and producers, Aaron Henkin and Wendel Patrick, is a powerful way to build empathy, literacy, investigative journalism, media makers programs, and storytelling into student experience

SDG anchor for this Activist in Residence Program

In collaboration with WYPR's Out of the Blocks podcast, the inaugural Global Youth Edition was developed at the International School of Beijing by Futures Public Radio students and Inspire Citizens to explore the mission of the OOTB podcast.

Student journalists visited with a group of senior citizens from the block of high rises just north of the school.  The visit resulted in a memorable episode and rich conversations on happiness, wellness, family, change, and wisdom, as well as times dancing and playing games with the neighbors.

Today, Out of the Blocks: Global Youth Edition is being developed and produced in a dozen schools and organizations globally built around SDG targets, an Empathy to Action design cycle, literacy standards and criteria, and student-led journalism conferences.
